Sweet Beef Curry The Kids Will Eat This tasty curry is easy to make and the kids will just love it because it’s not too hot. Use chuck steak and ask your butcher to cut it into approximately 2cm cubes. The curry sauce goes well with left over beef or lamb, too. Ingredients 500gm chuck steak or veal cut into 2cm cubes
1 apple, peeled cored and chopped roughly
½ tablespoon curry powder (not too hot, if you’re serving kids)
1 medium onion, diced
2 tablespoons oil (preferably light olive)
1 tablespoon fruit chutney (not the hot varieties)
1 tablespoon jam (whatever you have in the fridge)
1 banana, sliced
2 tablespoons desiccated coconut
1 tablespoon sultanas
1 tablespoon lemon juice
¼ tablespoon salt
Instructions Place apple and onion in a saucepan with oil and curry powder.
Fry without browning for a few minutes.
Add meat with the chutney, jam, banana, coconut and sultanas.
Simmer very gently for about one hour or until the meat is tender, adding the lemon juice about 30 minutes into the cooking time.
(If you’re using left over meat, simmer for 30 minutes, adding lemon juice after about 15 minutes).
Serve with boiled rice and pappadums.
